IJLP 2024 Autumn Orientation & Placement Test
Kanazawa University offers Japanese Language Program each semester throughout the academic year. This program is offered to all international students who study at Kanazawa University.
All students who wish to take Japanese language courses must register online through the “Student Information Service” in the Acanthus Portal.
*If you will be taking the Japanese language courses for the first time, you must take the orientation and placement test first. As for the orientation & placement test, please read in below.

3rd quarter(Q3) :From October 1, 2024 (Tue.) to November 28, 2024 (Thu.)
4th quarter(Q4) :From December 5, 2024 (Thu.) to February 7, 2025 (Fri.)

- Registration Period may vary depending on your affiliation. Be sure to check the registration deadline at your department.
- The registration form is temporality closed during the period from September 24 (Tue.) to 26 (Thu.) 12:30, from November 14 (Thu.) to 18 (Mon.) 12:30 and from November 22 (Fri.) to December 4 (Wed.) .
- You cannot take the classes this semester if you have missed the deadline of enrollment.
- Some of the classes will close registration when they reach a fixed number. The detail of each class is provided in the syllabus. Make sure to read it before you register for classes.
- Students are allowed to register for maximum of 5 courses per week for Japanese language program courses (Up to 5 credits per quarter).
- Be sure to do the registration before attending the classes.
- Students cannot attend the first lesson because of the unavoidable circumstances should register for classes that you wish to take before the day of the first lesson. Besides, please make sure to send a message to the instructor who is in charge of the class that you have registered through the Acanthus Portal.* If you didn’t register for classes and didn’t send the message to the instructor, you may not take the classes that you wish.
- Although the subjects offered are divided into quarters, the contents of each subject consist of two quarters. Students must register for both Q3 and Q4 because the contents for this course will be extended to Q4.
- Research students are permitted to register for classes if there are enough open places in each class.

If you have a valid reason and cannot enroll to the course by the deadline, please contact the International Student Section as soon as possible.
Procedure for taking Japanese language courses
If you will be taking a Japanese language course for the first time, you must complete the Orientation and Placement Test through the online system.
【Note】
Students who have not attended the Orientation or taken the Placement Test CANNOT take Japanese language courses this semester.
You CANNOT attend Japanese language courses without having registered for classes.
The steps for participating in Japanese language courses are presented here.
- Registration for Orientation and Placement Test (students are able to register below.) September 18, 0:00 ~ September 29, 23:59 (JST, UTC+9)
- Orientation (participating remotely on the e-IJLP, on-demand) September 26, 0:00 ~
- Placement Test (taken remotely on the e-IJLP) September 26, 0:00 ~September 30, 12:00 noon (JST, UTC+9)
- Result Notification (checking on the e-IJLP) September 30, 17:00 (JST, UTC+9)
- Class Registration (Temporary) (through Acanthus, the university portal)
- Level-Check Test (in the first lesson of each class) from October 1 ~
- Registration Finalized (through the Acanthus Portal)

<Attention>
* After registering, you will receive an email that will take you to the Orientation page on the day before the beginning of the Orientation and Placement Test.(If you haven’t received the email by that day, please check your spam and junk folders). Once you have received the notification, please access e-IJLP, which is the LMS of the IJLP, and complete the Orientation and Placement Test remotely.
*To access e-IJLP, you will need your Kanazawa University ID and password. The date on which ID and password are issued differs depending on academic department; please ask the Student Affairs section of your affiliation. Even if you have not received your Kanazawa University ID yet, ensure to register for the orientation from the form above by September 29.
*Students who have finished the application by September 24 can attend the orientation & placement test from September 26. Students who have applied after September 25 will be allowed to attend it after that.
